Comment: My first ever match in Italy. Nations League at one of the world’s greatest stadium, the San Siro, or Giuseppe Meazza if you prefer. Portugal only needed a point to win the group, while Italy was in need of a victory to keep the dream alive. Even if Portugal would lose, they would secure the group win with a victory home to Poland in the last match. To sum up, little was on stake except the pride. The Italian Football Association certainly made a smart move and lowered the ticket prices significantly. I was for example able to get a great seat midway on the long side for just 20 Euros. As a result, as many as 73.000 people attended the match. Resulting in a great atmosphere at San Siro.
It is not too much to say about the match itself. Italy tried to create chances and break down Portugal, but the visitors defended well. In the end, a goalless draw was probably a good reflection of what had been going on at the San Siro pitch. Firstly, congratulation to Portugal for winning the group. Secondly, thanks to the Italian FA for making this a great night!
