El Clasico Camp Nou FC Barcelona – Real Madrid 0-0 2019
Stadium: Camp Nou – Att: 93.426
Match: El Clasico (LaLiga Santander, Primera Division) 18. December 2019: FC Barcelona – Real Madrid 0-0 (0-0)
Report:
By stature, probably my biggest match so far. Nothing else can really be compared with El Clasico at the mighty Camp Nou in Barcelona. This is a match between two of the world’s biggest clubs, but it is also a match about much more than just football. The original scheduled match had to be postponed due to major demonstrations and riots in October. This time 3500 police officers were on duty to avoid any trouble. But it wasn’t to be. There were demonstrations everywhere and a total of 21 people got injured in the riots.
Inside the Camp Nou, the match went on, but not without demonstrations. El Clasico is the perfect occasion to get attention to the Catalan freedom fighters and the campaign “Spain sit and talk” made its mark. Firstly, with banners before and during the match. Secondly by stopping the match by kicking yellow balls into the pitch. A symbol of the campaign
On the pitch the 275. El Clasico ended a disapointing 0-0 draw. The first in 17 years. Both teams had plenty of chances to grab a winner, but this match will more or less be remembered for the demonstrations and not what happened on the green grass.
